I have trained for coaching with Auburn Theological Seminary and the International Coaching Federation. My core values are to equip and train leaders through the practice of co-active and reflective coaching for the prophetic transformation of communities.
Coaching Philosophy
A few years ago I saw this piece of sculpture at the North Carolina Arboretum. As I looked at it, it spoke to me.
The artist’s words are these: “Are the green tips on those brown branches all that is left, or are they a beginning of a new greening? The answer is in the hands of those that tend the garden.” A Hedge Against Extinction by Martin Webster
I see the time we are in and the transformational role coaching can play in it as one of creative opportunity. Oftentimes we are overburdened or the myth of scarcity has taken root in our souls. I choose instead to believe in abundance and that we are in a time of powerful change and transformation. Our leadership is a piece of that new greening and I believe that we can each be “creative, resilient and whole.” Through coaching it is our holy journey to see these things together and to be open to the possibilities that will present themselves along the way.
The word “accompaniment” has much to do with how I see coaching. For years I have seen the power of accompaniment – the walking side-by-side with another person through what is sometimes a challenged or murky situation. In accompaniment we say to the other, “I see you, your story matters to me and I will walk this journey with you.” In my life, I have seen the transformative power of accompaniment and seek to bring that into my work as a coach.
What is Coaching?
- Coaching is a time of co-active listening of your story so that I can hear where together we might discover ways to activate greater potential in you for the challenges you face in your professional or personal life.
- Coaching can lead to great creativity, resiliency, wholeness and transformation as you are accompanied for the necessary risk-taking of leadership in this time.
- Coaching can come alongside anyone at any leadership stage, so that thinking can be stretched.
- Coaching is action-oriented, meaning that we will work hard together to get to a point of discernment, action and the many steps along the way that lead to change.
- I am not here to fix things for you, but I am here to come alongside you in your leadership so that the work you are called to do can be as expansive, freeing and resourced as possible.
- Most of my coaching is conducted via phone or video conferencing. However, I can also meet with you in person if geography allows.
